How to Achieve a Low-Maintenance Landscape

If you are someone who enjoys having a garden, then you know that it often takes a lot of time to keep it beautiful. Now and then, you’ll find yourself watering, weeding, fertilizing, and digging in the dirt. Is there a way to maintain your beautiful yard without a lot of fuss? Yes. Sherwood Gardens Landscape Design & Development shares some landscaping tips to help you care for your garden or lawn.

1. Replace some of the grass with ground covers.

It’s natural to love your lawn, especially when it contributes so much to the overall curb appeal of your property. However, maintaining a lawn requires a lot of work. With that in mind, consider replacing some the grass with an appropriate ground cover to save on maintenance time without sacrificing aesthetics. Use the ground cover in problematic spots, such as shady, hot and rocky areas.

2. Choose drought-tolerant plants.

Since regular watering is an integral aspect of caring for your yard, why not go for plants, trees and shrubs that require less water to thrive? Doing so saves you significant time as a landscaper and lets you focus on other activities. There are many beautiful options available.

3. Use lots of mulch.

One of the best ways to minimize weeding is mulching heavily with compost and shredded bark. Avoid turning the soil unnecessarily because doing so can trigger the growth of dormant weed seeds. Instead, plant things close together and let the earthworms from your compost do the cultivating.

4. Avoid plants that are labor-intensive.

Certain plants require more work than others to maintain, so simply opt for plants that require less effort. If you feel unsure, you can look for more information online.
